April 10, 1996: The Re-Flagging Ceremony at Wurzburg Germany designating the 3rd Infantry Division as the 1st Infantry Division signifies the return of the Division to Germany.

October 20, 1996: The 1st Infantry Division deploys a covering force into Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Operation Joint Endeavour.

November 10, 1996: The Division takes command of Task Force Eagle in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
