January 15- February 4, 1945: The Division goes on the offensive during brutal winter weather and successfully drives back German forces past the Siegfried Line.

February 25, 1945: The 1st Infantry Division crosses the Roer River at Krenzau, launching its part in the Rhineland Offensive.

March 9, 1945: Bonn, Germany is captured by the 1st Infantry Division, ending enemy resistance west of the Rhine River.

March 16, 1945: The 1st Infantry Division crosses the Rhine River for the second time in its history.

March 27, 1945: The Division breaks out of the Rhine Bridgehead and participates in the closing of the Allied ring around the German Forces trapped in the Ruhr Pocket.

April 8, 1945: The 1st Infantry Division crosses the Weser River and heads toward the Harz Mountains.

April 10-25, 1945: The Division captures thousands of prisoners during its offensive in the Harz mountains.

May 5, 1945: The Division launches attacks toward Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia.

May 7, 1945: Orders are received to cease hostilities. The same day 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment liberates a work camp at Faulkenau, Czechoslovakia.

May 8, 1945: All German forces surrender in Europe, Victory in Europe Day.
